What is an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)?
People with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) have obsessions, compulsions or both. 'Obsessions' are thoughts, mental pictures or impulses that are upsetting and recurring, such as public embarrassment or harm coming to a loved one.

'Compulsions' are actions that people feel they have to perform to keep from feeling anxious or to prevent something bad from happening, such as washing hands or repeating an action a certain number of times. Individuals believe that by doing these actions, they can prevent the obsession from happening. Most people with OCD suffer from both obsessions and compulsions.

Psychotherapy and counselling is one of the more effective methods for helping people overcome their obsessive compulsive disorder. Our OCD treatment programme aims to help you control your obsessions and to be 'any regular compulsive actions.
Common thought processes of a habit disorder include:
Fear of getting a disease/ill health
Fear of negative consequences
Fear of forgetting to do something
Fear of doing something embarrassing
How we work
With your psychotherapist, you will begin to break down the root cause of your obsession and minimise the anxiety you experience from the issue as you perceive it. You will find that often the reality of the matter which triggers your obsessive compulsion is not as severe or serious as you believe. Consequently you can begin to confront your negative automatic thoughts and start to challenge them. Then you'll be able to break its connection to your behaviour.

We utilise a number of methods, including responsive prevention, exposure therapies, hypnotherapy, EMDR and CBT. Sessions take place at our centre at 10 Harley Street, London, and can also be completed remotely via Zoom.
