Unwanted habits can be reprogrammed
There are a lot of habits that can be beneficial such as eating healthily, keeping things organised, productive routines and regular sleeping hours. But what if bad habits start to set in? Maladaptive behaviours like binge-eating, nail biting, smoking, obsessive compulsive disorder, self-criticising, procrastination and other negative habits can develop over time too.

Habits can be hard to break as the more they are repeated, the more they are enforced or ingrained in the psyche. Over long periods of time, bad habits can become so ingrained that they become subconscious and the sufferer isn’t always aware that they have a problem, but still know something is wrong at a rational level.

The Apex Practice is here to help you break the cycle of bad habits and get back to a normal healthy lifestyle again. We are able to offer face-to-face and virtual support (via Zoom), and are committed to helping you gain control over your habits and phobias.
Common signals of a habit disorder include:
Your behaviours are repetitive, sometimes to the point that they become an automatic response.
In some cases your behaviours, once started, are difficult to stop
Your behaviours often disrupt your day to day activities and become a primary focus
Your actions are having a negative impact on others around you, such as family, friends and colleagues.
Some habits – such as hair pulling - can cause long term effects to your appearance
If you have made attempts to stop engaging in your habit, your demeanour becomes more anxious and sensitive. You may even experience withdrawal-like symptoms
How our treatment sessions can help you
During your therapy and counselling sessions in our London clinic at 10 Harley Street, we will aim to identify what your specific patterns of behaviour are when you indulge in your habit. In some cases we find the moments of heightened stress or feelings of depression can trigger your habit.

We will also work to discover if your habits are for positive or negative reinforcements. Some individuals experience a sense of pleasure from their habits, whereas on the other hand it is a way of handling emotions you generally find hard to cope with.
Together with your psychotherapist you will explore insights into how your habit developed, what causes it to continue and what options you have when you encounter a scenario where you would normally carry out your habit. This habit reversal training can help you break the cycle and move onto a renewed lifestyle free from bad habits.
Overcome your phobias
There are thousands of different phobias which affect people in a wide variety of different ways, from completely debilitating fears to milder, annoying fears that are hard to break away from. At The Apex Practice we aim to help you.

Our team will work with you to understand your phobia, where it originated, and what you can do to manage and control the feeling of fear or anxiety. We utilise a variety of techniques depending on the type of phobia and the severity, such as exposure therapy, Hypnotherapy, EMDR and CBT.
