Understanding the types of disorder:
ANOREXIA
Generally anorexia nervosa is caused by a combination of psychological and environmental factors, it can sometimes be a consequence of past trauma or abuse. Combined with western popular culture that focuses heavily on female body image, celebrities and body imperfections; it communicates a message of thin body shapes as being perfection. Symptoms can include regular meal skipping and obsessive calorie counting.
BINGE EATING
Patients who suffer from binge eating disorder will tend to overeat outside of their binges. Eating habits of patients with binge eating disorder resemble those of people with significant obesity problems albeit with binges superimposed.
BULIMIA
Often triggered by depression, low self-esteem and stress, it can involve extreme weight control behaviour, such as strict dietary restriction, recurrent self-induced vomiting or marked laxative misuse. The most obvious symptom of bulimia is the cycle of binge eating and purging. Purging is the action of getting rid of food from your body by making yourself sick or taking laxatives.
OBESITY
Obesity is a consequence of over eating and under exercising. It can be induced by low self esteem, depression, social withdrawal, and other social factors. If not checked and controlled at an early stage, it can lead to severe heart disease and other chronic ailments such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and mobility issues.
